…and the fiddler is at the door.
I have stayed up till the wee hours, tapping away at Microsoft Money and a spreadsheet while the household slept, until I began making elementary errors and nodding out, slumping forehead to keyboard. I have added, subtracted, juggled, marked through, erased, and just about clawed my eyeballs out. I’ve yelled at the computer screen when the bank site went down. I’ve called and grilled innocent tellers. It’s over. It’s done. And it’s been a regular smack-down.
I finally have my bank account balanced, and I’m exhausted.
Somewhere, someone in the world is laughing. But I’m not laughing. Not today.
(…to be continued.)
But screw your courage to the sticking-place,
And we’ll not fail.
